I'm a Democrat because…
Democratic values are about believing in the power of community, equality, and inclusion.
While still a student at Cedarburg High School, I got interested in politics. I researched several issues in detail and realized I was more aligned with the ideals of Barack Obama and the Democrats. I knew from a young age that I wanted to help people. I came to realize that politics and law-making would be my path to doing that.
It was at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee when I worked on my first political campaign as a summer organizer with Barack Obama’s campaign. After earning dual bachelor degrees in history and political science, I went to law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
I worked as a policy intern for the Department of Public Instruction and as an intern with the Milwaukee County Public Defender’s office. I was an intern for the Democratic Coordinated campaign in Madison in the fall of 2016, and I interned with State Representative Mark Spreitzer’s office. Since graduating from law school, I’ve worked as an Assistant State Public Defender in Washington County and briefly in private criminal defense.
To me, Democratic values are about believing in the power of community, equality, and inclusion. Our party gives a voice to everyone. We believe that when we all work together, we can and do achieve great things. Democrats want everyone to have real opportunity to live the American dream by working their way up the income ladder to a better life. We aspire to leave this planet a better place than when we inherited it.
People have more in common than most realize. We need to remind everyone of what we can do, when we work together. Right now, we’re seeing people joining together and getting actively engaged in our democracy in a way that hasn’t been true in a long time. Our country will be a better place because of that.
Currently, I write for several professional sports media as a hobby, while I work on my next career move. Service through politics and government policy are my life direction.
