The following amendments are on the Nov. 3 ballot:
Prohibit Government Closure of Places of Worship During Emergencies Amendment
The government has a responsibility to preserve lives. This amendment prevents public health officials from doing their jobs, endangering countless lives in any future pandemic. Closing places of worship does not prevent any person from practicing their faith, as they can do so in their own home, or, thanks to virtual meeting technology, with a large group remotely.
We recommend you vote NO
Prohibit Government Discrimination or Preferential Treatment Amendment
Do we accept that some groups are just going to have worse life outcomes because of their race, gender or ethnicity? Or do we want to preserve our ability to take steps to address these disparities? This amendment will make addressing disparities significantly harder. These are historically bipartisan programs and guardrails that aren’t “preferential treatment.”
We recommend you vote NO
Prohibit Partial Veto to Increase Tax or Fee Amendment
This amendment would make it harder for any future governor to right the wrongs of any legislature that fails to provide sufficient revenues to meet our shared priorities. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 44 states allowed their governors to veto individual line items of legislative budgets.
