Join Us at the Fair
Come to the Ozaukee Fair this weekend and say “hi” to us at our booth. We are across from the Lions Club beer tent and kitty-corner from the small animal shelter. I worked Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. It was raining quite hard a lot of the time, but a few folks started to wander over as the rain let up.
Once again, we have to thank Deb Anderson for her masterful organizing of our volunteers. Nancy Camden again lent her tent and artful eye for our set up. Special thanks to the Oz Dems who were willing to work as day captains. They are working from setup to takedown on their assigned day. Those captains this year are Amy Williamson, Jack Holzman, Kitty Moore, Kevin and Monica Curtis, and Wendi Freitag. I always have fun working with our great folks at the Fair.
Right before I left my shift, a 30-ish large young man, with long red hair and a beard pushing a toddler in a stroller, felt the need to parrot every red-meat right-wing MAGA piece of propaganda at us. He started by yelling about pedophiles, so I asked him if he was talking about President Trump. No, it was all the pedophiles, rapists and criminals that Biden let come into this country. He repeated the MAGA lies that these countries emptied their prisons over our Southern border. He left after a few threats and more insults and calling us Communists. My advice to all who work the Fair or just have to have conversations with these people comes from Mark Twain: “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with
experience.”
We cannot, however, dismiss the moral goalpost-moving of the Republican Party. It appears that it is now acceptable to be a pedophile. In all of this Trump/Epstein/Maxwell horror, you hear nothing about the victims. There were thousands of young girls recruited, dehumanized and raped by these powerful deviants. Ghislaine Maxwell, as you may have read, was a monster. Jeffrey Epstein was a monster, as is his best friend, Donald Trump. Congress is complicit. The U.S. Supreme Court is complicit. And, anyone who is not paying attention is complicit. Spare me the pearl clutching.
As a country, people often complain about Congress. Let's be honest; most people sit out mid-term elections, and some folks just vote for the top of the ticket. We cannot let that happen in 2026.
Speaking of elections, I need to start compiling a list of members who want to be poll workers. If you are interested, please email me.
Until then, let your voice be heard, let your power be seen and join us at the Cedarburg Peaceful Protest this Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
Thanks for reading.
