What to Know Before Tuesday's Election
Let us finish the next few days strong for Judge Taylor for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and all our local candidates! It is a big deal to take on the task of running for office. It takes a tremendous amount of time and work. Thank you. On Tuesday, join us at 7:30 p.m. for an election night watch party. We will provide beverages; you are welcome to bring a snack or sweet to share.
So Pam Bondi has been fired. Perhaps she can hang out with Kristi Noem and her cross-dressing husband. Why is it that the Republicans who wear the biggest crosses around their necks all turn out to be deviants? Will Pete Hegseth be next? We really do need bingo cards for this craziness.
As you know, I am a retired teacher, not an English teacher, but I would like us to understand what is going on with Trump and his gang of incompetents. Let us start with two vocabulary words. First a verb: obliterate. The dictionary definition of obliterate is “to destroy utterly: wipe out.” So in June, Trump announced that he “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Next an adjective: imminent. Imminent means “it is about to happen.” Iran, according to all the GOP talking heads, has been an “imminent threat for 47 years.” It is not possible for something to be imminent for 47 years. June gave us “Operation Midnight Hammer,” where we obliterated Iran’s nuclear capabilities. February gave us “Operation Epic Fury,” where we started our bombing of Iran’s civilians.
Wednesday night, Trump gave a speech. The Performer in Chief gave us no new information or hope, and the result of his words cratered the stock market again and increased oil prices. He said that US forces will keep hitting Iran “extremely hard over the next two or three weeks” and bring the country “back to the Stone Ages.” I have seen this movie before.
But the last vocabulary word I would like to define is a noun. That noun is: scam. The definition of a scam is “a dishonest scheme to gain money or possessions from someone fraudulently, especially a complex or prolonged one.” I bring this noun up because he said in his speech that childcare, Medicaid and Medicare were scams. If you don’t believe me, watch it yourself.
Now if I were a billionaire, and never had to worry about the cost of childcare or healthcare, those words would make sense. Childcare was expensive when my three kids were young; $800 per month, and that was when my now 38-year-old was a baby. EVERY democratic candidate needs to use, play and repeat Trump’s words. Yes, we can afford to take care of each other.
In 2024, we voted for policies where our tax dollars would improve our lives, and the lives of our families, and our neighbors. We lost. Now we are at war with Iran, and it is not going well. It is costing us billions of dollars per day, and surprisingly the Republicans have said they will need to cut more federal healthcare spending to pay for it. As Steve Schmidt said, “when we lose a war, we lose it as a country, not as a political party.” The problem is one political party is causing a great deal of pain for all of us.
We are all in this together. Thank you for all you do. Looking forward to seeing you fine folks on Tuesday.
