Today's Parade + More Upcoming Fun

Just when you thought you got out of walking in the Grafton Christmas Parade! The parade has been rescheduled for this Saturday (today!).

We have other great opportunities for you to join us for community and moving our progressive democratic work forward. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, there will be a viewing at the office of a conversation between Hillary Rodham Clinton, Heather Cox Richardson and Lin-Manuel Miranda titled, History Has Its Eyes On Us.” (Thank you, Wendy Freitag!) We will start the streaming event at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, we will be holding our Coffee, Tea and Democracy event in combination with a nomination paper signing event at the office from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our spring candidates. We will be collecting signatures for Judge Chris Taylor, who is running for the State Supreme Court; Christine Hansen, who is running to be Judge on Appellate Court 2; and other local candidates. Candidates need to collect signatures to make them eligible to be on the ballot for the April 7, 2026, election.

If you are like me, the horrible language that has come out of President Trump’s mouth is infuriating, embarrassing and frightening all at the same time. Coupled with the adolescent cheerleading by his cabinet and other Republicans while Trump falls asleep is way over-the-top insulting to normal humans. As many have said, if a teacher would call their students “stupid, retarded and piggy” they would be fired, as they should be. The GOP just laughs and applauds.

Do-nothing Congressman Glenn Grothman’s survey this week asks us how we feel about the great strides this administration has taken to attack the issue of affordability. Glenn must not have gotten the Trump memo that affordability is a Democratic Party hoax. Thank goodness we have some great candidates that are working to make this the last term for Mr. “Never saw a brat fry I couldn’t pass up."

In reality, regarding the U.S. economy, historian Heather Cox Richardson writes: “The Trump administration is replacing American democracy with a kleptocracy, a system of corruption in which a network of ruling elites use the institutions of government to steal public assets for their own private gain. It permits virtually unlimited theft while the head of state provides cover for his cronies through pardons and the uneven application of the law.”

“It is the system Russia’s president Vladimir Putin exploits in Russia, and President Donald J. Trump is working to establish it in the United States of America. As wealth and power flow through the executive branch, Trump is overriding the rule of law that is designed to protect the rest of us from self-dealing by unscrupulous individuals.”

We see that with the billionaire tech bros who are building giant AI centers across Wisconsin. Locally, here in Ozaukee County, the First Amendment was violated when Port Washington police ushered a woman out of a public meeting Tuesday night after she spoke against the project there. See the report here. There is talk of recalling Port Washington Mayor Ted Neitzke over the lack of transparency on this project.

See you at the parade today, and join us as always at our monthly meeting on Dec. 17. As I always say, who has more fun than Ozaukee County Democrats?
