Tell Us What’s on Your Mind

Please feel free to let me and other members of the leadership team know what is on your mind and how, as a county party, we can help the best we can.

At next week’s meeting, we are going to set aside some time for you to talk and share what issues you are most concerned about and how we as a group can address them.

One thing we all know to be true, is that the Republicans are rejoicing that we are not happy with all of the really terrible things they are endorsing. You know they all voted for Trump because he would be better than Harris on the economy. So we have some of the most incompetent and truly stupid fools running every part of the Trump administration. The Republicans, including Ron Johnson and Glenn Grothman, all voted for every clown on his cabinet.

J.D. Vance has taken seven luxury vacations since he was sworn in on January 20th, just like all the folks who voted for him. I am sure you heard that when he was in Ohio for his birthday, he used taxpayer dollars to raise the river water so he could kayak. Vance and his family should have traveled to Wisconsin; we have plenty of high water here.

Meanwhile, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce: “In just two months this summer, the federal government's new tariffs imposed $1.9 billion in new taxes on food. Those tariffs also meant a new $73 million tax increase on school supplies and a $1.9 billion new tax on clothes and shoes.

“According to the most recent Census Bureau data, there are just over 236,000 small business importers. (Small businesses are those with fewer than 500 employees.) Collectively, they imported over $868 billion worth of goods in 2023, the most recent year for which data is available.

“In order to estimate the tariff impact on small business importers, the Chamber applied the applicable country-level tariffs announced on July 31 (or where applicable the existing tariff rate) to the known-level of small business imports. Based on that calculation, we estimate that if American small businesses maintain the same level of imports at these new tariff rates, they will face a $202 billion annual tariff tax.

“It is important to note that in some instances this may understate the level of tariffs imposed on small businesses. For example, if a small business is importing an item made with steel from Europe, it will face a 50% tariff on the steel’s value share — not just a 15% tariff. These estimates also don’t capture the elevated 25% tariffs on autos from Canada and Mexico or the 25% tariff on auto parts from many countries. In other instances, this may overstate the tariff if they are importing an item, like semiconductors, currently excluded from tariffs.” This from the conservative business supporting Chamber.

Put November 4th on your calendar for this year’s annual county party fundraising gala at Shully’s in Thiensville. Our theme is “One Year To Win.”

Hopefully the rain left you dry. See you at the protests and at next week’s meeting. Thanks for reading.

P.S. State Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin and Assemblywoman Deb Andraca both shared flood updates and resources this week. (Click their names to read their updates.)
