A Dark Blip in U.S. History

“We are not in normal times, and it's important we do not pretend that we are where we are. This will either be a dark blip in U.S. history or it will be the rest of American history. Will the future of America be decided by majority rule? Or by mob rule?
“Five years ago, Donald Trump sent a mob of his most violent supporters to attack Congress to overthrow America. Thanks to the quick actions of true American heroes, the mob and their unscrupulous leader were unsuccessful in bringing down our democracy that day.
“Four years later, with the help of the world’s wealthiest people and the most corrupt of special interests, Donald Trump was able to lie, cheat and bribe his way back into power.”
Make certain you are part of the movement that is making sure this Klan/Nazi/Grift Republican power grab we are having is just a “dark blip in US history,” rather than the way this country will look forever.
Five hundred of us showed up in Mequon last Sunday and two hundred plus showed up in West Bend on Saturday to protest ICE. Imagine for a moment if the Capitol Police on January 6th responded to the Trump traitors the way ICE is acting in our communities.
The right-wing media and homegrown fascists like to name-call protesters. I particularly like this note from Heather Cox Richardson: “On Sunday, David Marcus of Fox News warned that ‘organized gangs of wine moms’ are using ‘Antifa tactics to harass and impede Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.’ He claimed that those people organizing to protect their neighborhoods from ICE may be ‘criminal conspiracies.’ He complained of ‘self-important White women’ protesting ‘with a weird and disturbing glee.’ He seemed to threaten them by warning: ‘If we simply allow these cosplaying would-be revolutionaries to do whatever they want, (then) Renee Good will not be the last to needlessly die.’” Sounds like my book club is in trouble.
Wednesday night, because of a need to change the location of their event, the Ozaukee County group, Forward’s Hope, held the second in their community education series on immigration in our office. Over one hundred people gathered to listen and learn from Christine Neumann-Ortiz, the founder and director of Voces de la Frontera. She discussed immigration rights, what citizens can and should do when witnessing ICE, due process, and the 287(g) agreements with sheriff’s deputies and police.
The DPOC was happy to help them out as we have been supporting other progressive groups in our county. I know these groups do not want a political party label attached to them, but I am pretty sure we would not have to be doing any of this if Harris was President.
On our list of things we shouldn’t have to do, is to be concerned about invading Greenland. Do you think Trump's son Barron will be first in line to enlist? As I am writing this, European troops have landed on the island, with plans to soon raise a European Union flag in a clear show of unity and deterrence. There is NO functional reason to invade Greenland. We already get all that we need from them.
