Ozaukee Democrats Organizing
Being Chair of the best Democratic Party in Wisconsin (maybe in the Country) never disappoints. We had over one hundred people at our meeting last night to listen to Dr. Charles Franklin of the Marquette Law School Poll. He gave us some very interesting information regarding the primary voting data and voting trends. He spent close to an hour with us speaking and taking questions from our members. One interesting statistic was that Governor Evers has an 89% approval rating with Wisconsin Democrats. This fact had the impact of 36% influence on Democratic primary voters when he endorsed David Crowley.
Affordability and economic issues dominated his survey responses while concern about data centers ranked around seven. However, nationally it is the new bellwether. In The Bulwark this week, Andrew Egger had the lead “Politicians Suddenly Notice Everyone Hates Data Centers.” In his article he raises how the issue is resonating in Ohio “This week, the National Republican Senatorial Committee raised the alarm explicitly in a memo about the Ohio Senate race, where Republican Sen. Jon Husted is trying to stave off a challenge from Democratic former Sen. Sherrod Brown. “Ohio is one of the leaders in building these AI factories,” reads the memo, which was first reported by Axios: Brown has made his opposition to them the centerpiece of his campaign against Husted. Brown is using it because it works. More than any other thing in this race, data centers are the anchor hanging around Husted’s neck. If he loses and data centers get the blame, politicians across the country will take notice.”
He then goes on to reference Wisconsin. “But it’s not only Democrats making use of this attack. In Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, Francesca Hong ran hard against data centers, while her opponent David Crowley took a more centrist approach: Not to ban them, but to require they be powered by green energy and built by union workers. Now that Crowley is through to the general, however, Republican Tom Tiffany is hitting him hard on the issue, describing him as “Data Center David Crowley” in ads: “Crowley’s campaign is funded by the people building them. Big Tech wins. Wisconsin pays.”
This is going to be a long season of really nasty and most certainly racist ads against David Crowley. So what are some of the things we can do? There is door knocking and phone calling and of course donating, and a request that came from the Voter Protection Division of the State Democratic Party: they need poll observers! We can anticipate Republican shenanigans at the polls, so we need to be there to help stave off the nastiness. Think Game of Thrones and the Night’s Watch: the group that guards the wall against the Night King and his army of undead.

“Anybody can be a poll observer, and they can serve anywhere in the state! We want as many poll observers as possible to “blanket the zone” and help protect voters this fall! The deadline to submit the form is Sunday, October 18th!”
