Would you still have your job if, every time you disagreed with your boss, you just stayed home for two months and expected to be paid with benefits? Well, Speaker Mike Johnson shut down the House of Representatives again today and sent them home until after the midterms.
According to The New Republic: “The House is going home again—this time to avoid a vote on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s impeachment. The vote the House GOP is most notably avoiding regards outgoing Republican Representative Thomas Massie’s eight articles of impeachment against Hegseth for his handling of the Iran war and other “high crimes and misdemeanors. House GOP leadership announced Wednesday morning that they will end their current slate of votes early and head home until the midterms, a nearly two-month break.
“Members are further advised that upon completion of today’s legislative business, votes are no longer expected in the House tomorrow, September 17th,” a message from the office of House Majority Whip Tom Emmer read. “The last votes for the week are expected at approximately 4:45 p.m. this afternoon. This is a change from the previously announced schedule. The House will now move up votes on cutting Environmental Protection Agency regulations to Wednesday.”
Thank goodness they will get in a vote to cut environmental regulations before they go home to campaign and try to save their jobs. This is where I plug the absolute need to vote for Brad Smith as our Congressman in the 6th Congressional District to replace "the weirdest man in Congress," Glenn Grothman. The Washington and Ozaukee Counties League of Women Voters will be holding a 6th CD Congressional Forum on October 20th, 6:30-8:00 at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. All candidates will be invited. We will see if Glenn shows up; he has nothing else to do.
When the Democrats win the House, they should most certainly impeach ALL the officials around Trump who have committed high crimes and misdemeanors. All of them. You know these people are in trouble when FBI Director Kash Patel can leave Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) speechless. The line of questioning on Tuesday was sparked by a shift in FBI hiring practices which lifted longtime bans on selecting new trainees if they have engaged in prostitution or bestiality. Apparently, Patel is now concerned about potential FBI employees who might have been the victims of human trafficking, just like he is concerned about the victims in the Epstein Files (sarcasm). Congressman and pedophile protector Tom Tiffany, who wants to be our next Governor, is part of that crew of GOP incompetents. Speaking of crews, the pilot of Tiffany’s plane that made an emergency landing in a lake near Wausau last week is Republican operative Leonard Boltz. He was one of a group of Langlade County Republicans who were recommended for campaign finance felony charges by the Wisconsin Elections Commission in 2024. Charges dealt with an alleged scheme to funnel illegal campaign donations to a 2022 primary opponent of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos that Trump was endorsing. Ultimately, Boltz was not charged. Such fun guys.
