It's Primary Election SZN

To start off my “Message From the Chair” this week, there is ONE Primary election in Ozaukee County on Tuesday, Feb. 17, and that is for County Supervisor District 24. That includes Mequon’s wards 8, 9, 10, 11 and 11a. The map is below. If you live in that district, please vote for Jeff Hansher. He is our endorsed candidate and the very qualified incumbent. (Learn more about him later in this newsletter.)

So, how about that Super Bowl? My husband’s family has a lot of Seahawks fans. While the game was a bit tedious, the outcome was satisfying. Go, Hawks!

Halftime, however, has become quite the freakout by the right wing. I watched the interview on Piers Morgan’s show with Megyn Kelly (an Ozempic and hair extension mascot), literally screaming about how un-American the Bad Bunny show was. So the Republicans are going to “investigate the half-time show.” Wow, way more critical to our country’s well being than investigating the ICE murders or the 13 million times Trump was in the Epstein files.

According to Politico, House Republicans are just "collectively shrugging” about Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's lies. “Oh, I think knives are out [for Lutnick]. He’s despised by nearly everyone,” one person close to the White House told Politico. “I doubt Trump would easily push him out, though. The president doesn’t wanna legitimize the Epstein issue too much.” Legitimize??? It would be hard to legitimize anything when you have a totally corrupt DOJ run by Pammy Bondi.

How many of you have ever curled? Matt Hamilton was gold medalist in 2018 representing the Madison Curling Club. I actually “curled” there, and I say this very lightly, when our oldest son Nate had his 40th birthday party there. Nate is a very serious curler. In addition to attacking Bad Bunny as being anti-American, the Right has gone on to also attack a TEAM USA curler.

According to Bill Kristol: “Rich Ruohonen, a lawyer from Minnesota, is a member of the U.S. Olympic curling team. Yesterday, he used his platform to show real leadership:

‘I’m proud to be here to represent Team USA, and to represent our country. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention what’s going on in Minnesota and what a tough time it’s been for everybody. This stuff is happening right, right around where we live. . . . I am a lawyer, as you know, and we have a constitution, and it allows us to [have] freedom of press, freedom of speech, protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures, and makes it that we have to have probable cause to be pulled over. And what’s happening in Minnesota is wrong. There’s no shades of grey. It’s clear. . . . What the Olympics means is excellence, respect, friendship, and we all, I think, exemplify that. And we are playing for the people of Minnesota and the people around the country who share those same values. That compassion, that love and that respect.’

“Bravo, Mr. Ruohonen! I’ve got to say that his admirable and eloquent statement is enough to make me reconsider my doubts about his sport. If curlers are going to step up and tell the truth, I’m okay with curling.”

In curling terms, Mr. Ruohonen has “stones“ – my words, not his. Stones are what curlers throw.

There is still time to sign up for the 6th CD RBG Dinner.

Join us next Wednesday for our monthly county party meeting. We have several great speakers lined up to keep us informed, including 6th CD candidate Amanda Bell.

See you Wednesday, and thanks for reading.
