GOP Policies Raise Cost of Living in Ozaukee County
“You know what I really love? I love the inflation,” Trump said. “You know why? Because as soon as this war is over, you know I can say it now ... you know we’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil. Nobody knows it. You know who doesn’t know about it? Iran, until right now,” He goes on to say, “We took out the other night, 22 ships, late at night, with no lights, because they don’t have any radar, because we blasted the crap out of it,” the president said. “That’s why oil is at $85 a barrel. We’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil, millions of barrels every night.” There is no doubt about it: GOP policies raise the cost of living in Ozaukee County.
Guess what happened as soon as Trump announced that he loved the inflation and that he had been sneaking 22 oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, millions of barrels every night? The price of oil went up $10 a barrel, oil is now at $95 a barrel.
This President has made himself and his family richer on a level that would have ended any other Presidency. His corruption is why we don’t have the money to afford healthcare, or fund public schools, or keep rural hospitals open.
Remember in April of 2024 when Trump had a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago Club where executives from oil and gas industries were asked to contribute $1 billion to his campaign. In exchange for that incredibly large sum of campaign money, he promised government action that would enrich them. De-regulation, the dismantling of green energy policies, and now the War in Iran are all in place to corruptly enrich Trump, his family and the donor class.
We are paying for that corruption every day, with unnecessarily high gas and grocery prices. Most people on some level believe all politicians are corrupt. There is the tendency to do the “both sides” of this discussion.
There is no clearer statement of how paying for this corruption with taxpayer dollars will take away things U.S. taxpayers need than Speaker Mike Johnson's comments, “Over 74 percent of federal spending is on autopilot. Mandatory spending. That’s your entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and then things like Social Security. They have to be adjusted and fixed. We have a plan to do that, uh, next year, and it’s critical because we’re at 40 trillion, plus.”
Speaker Mike Johnson admitted these programs will be on the chopping block next year. He closed that thought with one more line that should concern us, “Desperate times call for desperate measures.”
Enriching Trump and other billionaires and simultaneously depriving the rest of us as to what we need is the type of corruption that three Democratic Congresspersons Jason Crow, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Mike Levin are organizing against in their “End Corruption Caucus.”
“Corruption is poisoning our politics. From the disastrous Citizens United decision, to the President using his office to enrich himself and his family. Our democracy is buckling under the influence of billionaire donors and special interests,” said Congressman Crow. “Corruption is why costs are so high, why the government feels unresponsive, and why the system seems to only benefit the wealthy and well-connected. We must take on corruption to lower prices, restore trust, and help working families.”
It can be done. It was done during the U.S. Progressive Era and in post-Watergate America. The answer is to provide more freedom and fairness to all of us. Corruption is what took down Viktor Orban in Hungary. According to the Carnegie Institute for Peace, ”Leaders like Orban and Trump depend on the fiction that the leadership is fighting a corrupt establishment.
When you show people that they are personally pocketing tax dollars and it is hurting them personally that fiction falls apart.”
So go to Costco or wherever you buy your gas and top off your tank. Then decide how you want to help us take our taxpayer dollars back and put an end to this unprecedented corruption, before they end programs like Medicare and Social Security to balance their greed. Stopping senseless wars, reducing corruption and the deficit, and investing in health care can make things more affordable for Americans. The President and his regime are doing the exact opposite. GOP policies are raising the cost of living in Ozaukee County.
